Join us as a Principal Magnetic Resonance Physicist on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Based across our hospital sites, you'll provide expert MR physics support and MR safety advice across the Trust and external service partners.
We're looking for an HCPC registered, experienced clinical scientist with the confidence to work autonomously and collaboratively.
In this fixed-term maternity cover role, you will be involved in the delivery of expert scientific and technical support for MRI across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and its external partners.
Acting as a senior member of the MR physics team, you'll be responsible for overseeing MR quality assurance programmes, troubleshooting system issues, supporting procurement, and optimising clinical protocols.
You will act as a recognised Magnetic Resonance Safety Expert (MRSE), providing high-level safety advice and guidance to radiographers, radiologists, and other clinical staff. You'll also play a vital role in teaching and training STP trainees, junior staff, and postgraduate students.
This role requires strong communication, advanced problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage complex projects independently while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
* Support the Head of Magnetic Resonance Physics as necessary and interact with the senior managers and clinicians within imaging and other directorates regarding scientific, technical and statutory issues involving magnetic resonance.
* Interact appropriately with staff (clinicians, radiographers and trainees) as a magnetic resonance safety expert. This involves communication of highly complex information which frequently requires persuasion or negotiation.
* Provide verbal, written and telephonic highly complex advice and recommendations on issues such related to magnetic resonance safety, compliance with guidelines, technical issues and clinical protocols to SLA customers (including senior managers and clinicians).
* Act as day-to-day mentor for magnetic resonance physics staff.
* Interact with manufacturers regarding procurement projects within the Trust's magnetic resonance departments as well as for external organisations. This requires provision of complex written advice on equipment specifications and selection and good interpersonal and negotiation skills.
* Supervise and train STP trainee clinical scientists on the national training scheme and visiting scientific staff.

Person Specification
Education
* Honours Degree in a Physical Science
* MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent subject or equivalent experience
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Advanced professional training in magnetic resonance physics or equivalent
* 1st or 2nd class honours degree
* PhD in a relevant subject
Skills
* Proven competence in understanding and application of MR physics and safety
* Specialist knowledge and understanding of regulations, recommendations and guidelines
* Self-motivated/ability for problem solving and decision making
* Able to work independently providing specialist advice to the Trust and SLA customers
Experience
* Significant experience in application of MR physics in a clinical environment
* Specialist experience in MR systems, image acquisition and image processing
* Experience in giving responsible MR safety advice
* Experience in teaching and training junior staff members and STP trainees
