Overview

The SEND Assessments and Review Service Area have an exciting opportunity available to recruit a SEND Support Caseworker for Preparation for Adulthood.

We are looking for an inspirational, motivated and well‑organised individual who has knowledge and relevant experience of working within SEND legislation and procedures and can adapt to working in a fast‑paced environment.

Candidates should be passionate about supporting the SEND young people of Stockton‑on‑Tees and should have the resilience and tenacity to challenge settings to ensure they get the support they need to achieve.

The Caseworker will have the ability to manage conflicting priorities and should be able to manage and prioritise their own workload and have knowledge of special educational needs practices with a commitment to learning new skills.

They will promote the graduated response to meeting Special Educational Needs for young people in the Stockton Borough and be an integral part in contributing to collecting, understanding and acting upon the young person’s views relating to Support in schools.

The Caseworker will guide and monitor the use of the graduated response (Assess, Plan, Do, Review) in line with the SEND Code of Practice and champion inclusive education practices using the Inclusive Education Framework.

They will be an integral part in contributing to the development of the PFA agenda by developing innovative PFA pathways from birth onwards for the young people so they can access paid employment at the end of their educational journey.

The Caseworker will provide advice, guidance, and challenge to SENCOs and college leaders to improve SEND provision.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Senior Caseworker and Team Manager in promoting the Preparation for Adulthood agenda and to ensure statutory duties for children and young people who have special educational needs are met.

Please note this is a fixed term post for 18 months.

As this is a fixed‑term post, secondment opportunities will be considered for internal employees. Please obtain prior approval from your current line manager before completing the application. For further information, please refer to the council’s secondment policy.

This post has been identified as suitable for flexible working which enables the post holder to work 40% of their working time away from the office.
