Sappi Somerset is one of the largest, most advanced, and high-performing mills in North America, with some of the lowest mill emissions. Our packaging papers serve various market segments including health and beauty, confectionery, premium beverages, and food packaging. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing and harvesting standing timber stumpage to supply high-quality fiber and fuel to the Somerset mill. Responsibilities include managing and maintaining a logging force, promoting land stewardship to ensure SFI certification, maintaining records of stumpage, and supporting relationships with loggers and landowners.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Associate or bachelor’s degree in Forestry
* Ability to attain or hold a Maine Forester's License
* Valid State Driver’s license
* Skills: Working knowledge of GIS mapping, timber inventory and analysis, understanding of forestry regulations and compliance, building forest roads
* Solid understanding of forest markets within the Northeast
* Knowledge of forest certification related to land management and product marketing
* Computer literacy in spreadsheets, word processing, and network systems
* Willingness to travel throughout Maine and New Hampshire
PREFERRED/DESIRED SKILLS
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in forestry
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in timber procurement
* Experience working on both private and industrial forest lands
* Experience negotiating contracts with landowners and contractors
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Strong negotiating skills, computer literacy, knowledge of wood procurement systems, excellent interpersonal skills, and general industry knowledge are essential.
Salary is determined based on factors such as job value, market conditions, internal equity, and skills.
