Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse - Day Case Unit

The closing date is 26 October 2025

Opportunity to work on the day case unit and the discharge lounge at Good Hope Hospital. The role requires the applicant to work in both the day case unit and coordinate a busy discharge lounge. Duties will include patient admission, post‑operative care, facilitating safe patient discharges, leadership duties and sickness management.


Main duties of the job

To ensure the ward is run effectively, reviewing admissions daily, managing staffing and short‑term sickness.

Co‑ordinate both areas, supporting staff and escalating concerns to band 7.

Qualifications

* Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register (Adult/Child/Learning Disability or Mental Health)
* Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses or post‑graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post‑registration experience


Experience

* Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
* Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor or meets NMC standards for student supervision and assessment
* Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post‑graduate practice
* Being an accountable professional
* Promoting health and preventing ill health
* Assessing needs and planning careProviding and evaluating care
* Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams – including prioritisation and delegation skills
* Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
* Improving safety and quality of care
* Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
* Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
* Awareness of Health and Safety issues
* Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post‑graduate registered nurse


Additional Criteria

* Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
* Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice‑based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
* Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
* Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality/acute care setting, including the supervision / education of junior staff
* Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
* Evidence of ability to lead / coordinate a shift / area of department
* Experience in learning from incidents / complaints and supporting changes in practice
