Band 6 Endocrine Clinical Nurse Specialist – Diabetes & Endocrine Centre – Birmingham Heartlands Hospital
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join the Endocrine Clinical Nurse Specialist at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. This developmental role offers the chance to work both autonomously and as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, delivering expert, patient‑centred care to individuals with a wide range of endocrine conditions. You will be supported by senior CNS colleagues to develop advanced knowledge, clinical confidence, and specialist competencies within this dynamic and rewarding specialty.

Main duties of the job
Provide specialist assessment, support, and management for patients with endocrine conditions across outpatient, inpatient, and diagnostic pathways.
Work autonomously within your scope of practice while contributing actively to the wider multidisciplinary team.
Support and coordinate endocrine dynamic function testing, ensuring safe monitoring and clear communication with patients.
Demonstrate advanced communication skills to counsel patients and families.
Act as a key point of contact for patients, offering timely advice, emotional support, and continuity of care.
Contribute to the development of patient information resources and deliver education to patients, carers, and ward‑based staff.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of endocrine pathways, treatments, and evidence‑based practice.
Participate in service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within the Endocrine Centre.
Work within your professional code of conduct and seek opportunities to develop your competence and specialist skills.

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
* Portfolio of certified / accredited post registration professional development
Qualifications (Desirable)
* Health Assessment postgraduate qualification or willingness to work towards it
Experience (Essential)
* Post registration experience with evidence of knowledge and development for the associated area of specialist practice
* In‑depth knowledge of specialist procedures required for role, with willingness to undertake further training / education to achieve agreed level of competence
* Knowledge of standards and policies associated with role
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary and cross‑agency work environment
* Demonstrable understanding of the national / NHSE diagnostic / therapeutic expectations / strategy around endoscopy services and ability to relate this to the role
* Demonstrable understanding of clinical governance / patient safety processes and ability to relate this to personal / professional accountability
