Nuclear Watchkeeper (Technical Author) - Submarines – Full Time, Glasgow Hybrid (3 Days in Office)
Opportunity to retrain as a Technical Author. Rolls-Royce Submarines Safety and Engineering team, based in Derby, offers a route to become a Technical Author by updating PWR2 operating manuals (Atomic Books), producing new Atomic Books for the Dreadnought class (PWR3), and supporting document approvals by Rolls‑Royce / MoD Safety approval groups.
As a Technical Author, you will be in regular contact with personnel within the Safety and Engineering teams based on site, at MoD, INA and BAES. The role includes training in Publications Software Tools to apply technical knowledge and work towards becoming a Technical Author within the team.
You will ensure plant and support equipment are supported with accurate and up-to-date technical documentation in accordance with contract requirements and agreed programme deliverables (time, cost, quality).
Hybrid working provides a balance between office, home or other locations. This is a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, depending on business needs, role and team. What you will be doing
* Maintaining and applying the technical publication standards.
* Providing advice on documents and illustrations to create maximum impact and effect.
* Identifying and implementing improvements.
* Providing editorial support to the production of Digital Signal Processing and Non Destructive Engineering procedures.
* Liaising with personnel within the Safety and Engineering teams based on site, at MoD, INA and BAES.
Who we are looking for
* CAT C (or above) Watchkeeper Submarines experience
* Ability to read / interpret technical drawings
* Strong communication and problem-solving capabilities
* IT Skills, Microsoft Word, Excel
