You're joining a well-established SME multidisciplinary consultancy with several offices across the UK and a growing presence in the Midlands. The business delivers a wide range of building services and multidisciplinary engineering projects across both public and private sectors and has built a strong reputation for technical quality, collaboration and long‑term client relationships. The Birmingham office already has an experienced team and a healthy pipeline of secured work. The company is now looking to appoint a Building Services Director to lead, strengthen and grow this important regional base, supported by the wider leadership team.
This role offers a rare opportunity to take ownership of an established office and shape its next phase of growth within a supportive and well‑respected consultancy.
Your new role
As Building Services Director you will lead the technical, commercial and operational performance of the Birmingham office. You will oversee and develop the existing team while scaling the office to approximately 15 staff as project demand grows. This is a hybrid role offering excellent flexibility, typically requiring around two days per week in the Birmingham office.
Key responsibilities
* Act as a senior technical lead on Building Services / MEP projects
* Develop and maintain strong client relationships
* Support business development and win new work
* Lead and mentor engineers within the Birmingham team
* Manage project delivery, team performance and commercial outcomes
* Support the strategic growth of the regional office
The consultancy has a strong presence in public sector projects, but you will also have scope to expand commercial sector work depending on your experience and client network.
What you'll need to succeed
* Background as an Associate Director, Technical Director or a similar senior role within a Building Services / MEP consultancy
* Strong technical expertise in MEP design and project delivery
* Experience leading teams and developing engineers
* Ability to build client relationships and support business developmentStrong commercial awareness and leadership capability
* Ambition to lead and grow a regional office within a supportive SME environment
