SERVICE CHARGE ACCOUNT MANAGER
Location: North London
Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 (dependent on experience)
Work Arrangement: Office based
The Opportunity:
An established property management business is looking for a detail-oriented Service Charge Accountant to join their accounts department. Reporting to the Head of Accounts, you'll be responsible for the accurate and efficient accounting of a mixed property portfolio, supporting Property Managers and clients with all service charge and financial matters.
This is a great role for someone with property accounting experience who enjoys problem solving, takes pride in accuracy, and wants to work within a friendly, team-based environment.
The Role:
You'll manage the full service charge accounting cycle, from producing budgets and raising demands through to reconciling year-end accounts and liaising with external accountants. The role involves regular contact with clients, leaseholders, and internal teams to ensure timely and transparent financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of residential developments.
* Produce and issue service charge, ground rent, insurance, and rent demands.
* Prepare quarterly and annual service charge accounts within required deadlines.
* Reconcile year-end accounts up to trial balance for review by external accountants.
* Carry out regular bank reconciliations and daily banking routines.
* Issue monthly or quarterly income and expenditure statements to clients.
* Respond to leaseholder and supplier queries promptly and professionally.
* Liaise closely with Property Managers regarding budgets and expenditure.
* Assist with the onboarding of new developments, ensuring smooth financial setup.
* Monitor workload and ensure all key tasks are completed within agreed timeframes.
The Person:
We're looking for an organised and approachable accounts professional with a strong grasp of property finance. You'll have an analytical mindset, enjoy structure, and take pride in accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Skills & Experience:
* Previous experience in property or block management accounting.
* Good working knowledge of service charge procedures and legislation.
* Confident with Excel and property management software (TRAMPS or similar).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy workload.
* A team player with a proactive and adaptable approach.
