To support the Registered Manager in the effective running of the care home, ensuring high standards of care and compliance. The Deputy Manager will take full responsibility in the Manager's absence (e.g., annual leave) and work alongside staff on the floor to provide leadership, guidance, and hands-on care where required.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
* Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the home.
* Act as the senior point of contact during the Manager's absence, including annual leave.
* Lead by example on the floor, working alongside care staff to maintain safe, effective, and compassionate care.
* Provide supervision, support, and mentoring for staff to promote professional development.
* Assist with staff rotas, allocation of duties, and shift planning.
Quality of Care
* Ensure residents' care plans are up to date, person-centred, and reflect their needs and choices.
* Monitor the quality of care provided, identifying areas for improvement and working with the team to address them.
* Participate in audits, spot checks, and care reviews.
* Respond to and resolve concerns or complaints promptly and professionally.
Compliance & Safeguarding
* Support the Registered Manager in ensuring the home meets CQC and local authority standards.
* Maintain accurate records in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
* Promote a safe environment by adhering to safeguarding, health & safety, and infection control policies.
Teamwork & Staff Support
* Work closely with staff on the floor to provide guidance, encouragement, and practical help when needed.
* Promote teamwork, respect, and positive working relationships within the staff team.
* Identify staff training needs and contribute to ongoing staff development.
Communication & Liaison
* Maintain effective communication with residents, relatives, staff, and external professionals.
* Represent the home positively in the community and during inspections.
* Ensure that important information is cascaded to staff promptly and clearly.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience in a senior care role (e.g., Senior Carer, Team Leader, Deputy).
* Strong knowledge of CQC standards and safeguarding.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Ability to work on the floor providing hands-on care when needed.
* Compassionate, approachable, and committed to person-centred care.
Desirable:
* NVQ/QCF Level 3 or 5 in Health & Social Care (or working towards).
* Previous experience as a Deputy Manager or equivalent role.
* Confidence in handling staffing issues, audits, and regulatory requirements.
