Job Description:
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills through varied and quality work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers, providing proactive legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC's, JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will manage a full and varied caseload.
Senior Lawyers will play an active role in team management, deputising for the Principal Solicitor and contributing to the delivery of legal services.
We are seeking dynamic individuals with some experience in managing and supervising teams, capable of motivating others and working collaboratively.
Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants must:
* Be a Solicitor, barrister, or Fellow of CILEX, eligible to practise in England and Wales with a current practising certificate
* Have experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services
* Provide solutions-focused advice and learn quickly about new subjects
* Work effectively in teams, managing priorities to meet deadlines
* Lead and contribute to client and project meetings, demonstrating excellent client care and organizational skills
* Advise Members and Senior Officers of the Council
The role is hybrid, with remote work considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, and the candidate must collect their laptop from the Reigate office on the first day.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees.
You will contribute to the wider management of Legal Services, embodying the council's values and behaviors.
Managing a demanding caseload, you will deliver innovative solutions with minimal supervision and support the council's goal to reduce reliance on external legal support. Advocacy duties may be required.
You will assist the Monitoring Officer in advising the Council on illegality or procedural issues and contribute to staff training on legal updates and emerging issues.
