The HSE Assistant reports directly to the HSE Manager and supports the ongoing implementation and monitoring of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. This role involves actively assisting all staff in ensuring compliance with both regulatory requirements and Boccard UK’s internal HSE standards. Key responsibilities include conducting regular site inspections, participating in internal audits, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement in health and safety practices across the organisation.
Based at the UK Manufacturing facility in Deeside, the HSE Assistant responsibilities will include:
* Monitoring and reinforcing a strong nuclear safety culture across all UK operations, including providing informal coaching, safety interventions, toolbox talks, training, and hazard reporting.
* Assisting with amendments and maintenance of documentation, policies, and procedures, ensuring they are kept up to date and communicated effectively.
* Facilitating new starter induction training and managing training records with support from the business management team.
* Maintaining and monitoring the H&S legal register.
* Developing and maintaining a ‘continuous improvement’ ethos in all health, safety, and environmental issues.
* Promoting the importance of safe practices and acting as a role model for others.
* Attending safety meetings as requested with subcontractors, clients, and the workforce.
* Conducting risk assessments, including COSHH assessments, and ensuring the results are communicated to relevant parties.
* Ensuring all near misses are recorded within the HSE reporting system, and assisting in root cause analysis to share lessons learned and prevent reoccurrence.
* Ensuring health surveillance reviews are conducted as required.
* Establishing processes and procedures for keeping plant and machinery safe, including regular maintenance, safe movement, storage, and use.
* Assisting in the compilation of monthly safety statistics.
* Maintaining working knowledge of all relevant standards, particularly ISO 14001:2005 and ISO 45001:2018.
* Demonstrating a desire to learn and develop in the role.
Skills and Qualifications
* Holding a NEBOSH General or Construction certificate is desirable.
* Knowledge of MS Office Pack.
