This business is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-accuracy measurement systems, supplying advanced technology solutions into demanding industrial and scientific markets worldwide. All products are engineered and assembled in the UK, with a strong emphasis on precision, reliability and technical excellence.
This is an opportunity to join a well-established engineering team working on technically challenging products where detail, accuracy and manufacturability matter.
The Role
You will design, develop and support mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to production, working closely with manufacturing, quality and supply chain teams.
The role is hands‑on and product‑focused, offering exposure across the full development lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
* 3D design of components and assemblies using SolidWorks
* Creation of detailed manufacturing drawings (GD&T compliant)
* Supporting new product introduction (NPI) from concept, prototyping and testing through to production
* Applying DFM/DFA principles to optimise designs
* Creating and maintaining engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs, specifications)
* Supporting production with issue resolution and continuous improvement initiatives
* Working with suppliers to source components and resolve technical issues
What We’re Looking For
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
* 3+ years’ experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment
* Strong SolidWorks capability (parts, assemblies, drawings)
* Experience creating GD&T‑compliant drawings
* Understanding of machining, sheet metal, moulding and assembly processes
* Experience supporting production and working cross‑functionally
* Exposure to NPI and prototyping
* Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
Experience in precision engineering, instrumentation, metrology, opto‑mechanical or high‑accuracy systems would be advantageous.
