The Public Health Development Manager will be a member of the dynamic Public Health team. You will provide leadership and advocacy for health and wellbeing and support the development and implementation of policy and practice to reduce inequalities across Walsall. You will work with staff, organisations, and community groups to build public health capacity across Walsall whilst targeting support to those in greatest need.
The post holder will be primarily responsible for managing Walsall's allocation of the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) Local Stop Smoking Services and Support Grant. This funding supports the national government's commitment to create a smoke‑free generation alongside the Tobacco and Vapes Bill and will also contribute to the delivery of Walsall's Tobacco Control Strategy (2023 to 2027).
The Local Stop Smoking Services and Support Grant will be used to enhance Walsall's existing stop smoking services, expand new pathways and initiatives, develop and deliver relevant training and education programmes and roll out public awareness campaigns.
Responsibilities
* Understand wider smoking cessation systems and develop system-wide collaborations with partners such as NHS, community and voluntary sector.
* Streamline referral routes and enhance support by increasing the breadth and capacity of smoking cessation services.
* Increase provision of pharmacotherapies, including Varenicline.
* Manage the budget and coordinate reporting returns associated with the Local Stop Smoking Services and Support Grant programme.
* Provide leadership and advocacy for health and wellbeing and support the development and implementation of policy and practice to reduce inequalities across Walsall.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience working at a strategic level, developing system-wide health and wellbeing policy.
* Experience leading significant and successful external funding programmes.
* Strong knowledge of smoking cessation systems and ability to work with partners across NHS, community and voluntary sector.
