J ob Title: Health & Safety Risk Assessor (Highways) Location: Winchester, Micheldever and occasionally other various sites across Hampshire Contract Type: Temporary 6 - months with the possibility to be extended Hours: 20 - 37 hours per week, full-time preferred but part-time will be considered Salary: £23.37 per hour Role Summary As part of this role, the candidate should expect to carry out work within the following areas: Produce detailed risk assessment and method statements (RAMS) in accordance with existing corporate templates Undertake in-house risk assessor training, and complete RAMS in accordance with them Analyse and assess civil engineering activities within the highways sector and produce subsequent RAMS which reduce H&S risks to staff Work with operational staff to develop and agree safe working procedures as part of the RAMS development process Review and evaluate effectiveness of RAMS once produced, producing necessary updates as required Ability to work efficiently in order to produce detailed but practical RAMS within a short timescale As part of this role, the candidate will be required to produce a minimum of 25 RAMS for different operations. Most of these are based on existing RAMS which are in place, but some will have to be created. This will need to be done over a 6-month period. Required Qualifications and Experience Experience of producing risk assessments and method statements independently Experience of working with operational teams in order to implement practical and safe working practices Up to date knowledge of HSE guidance on RAMS Effective working knowledge of other relevant health and safety procedures (such as moving and handling, COSHH and HAVS) Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present outputs to managers and operational staff Ability to work unsupervised Ability to use basic Microsoft Office 365 software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.) A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle which can be used for work travel Previous experience of the highways sector is not essential Decision Making Areas Determining sound solutions to H&S risks Producing effective RAMS Reviewing current working practices and being able to produce RAMS from them Agree approaches with managers and operational staff Working Conditions Ability to drive to sites in and around Hampshire Will initially require office working in Winchester and/or Micheldever (Hampshire, UK) Hybrid working (mixture of home and office working) available after initial 3-month period Confident in working in hazardous construction environment Possess basic PPE (high vis jacket and trousers, safety boots, hard hat).
