About Us
Himley Cricket Club is a well-established and ambitious club with a proud history and a strong community presence. We operate across two grounds and host a wide range of fixtures from junior to senior level, including league and representative matches. We have five senior teams on a Saturday with our 1st XI playing in the Birmingham & District Premier Division One. We are now seeking a dedicated and experienced Groundsperson to take full responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of our playing surfaces and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
Pitch Preparation & Maintenance
· Prepare and maintain high-quality cricket wickets and outfields for all matches and training sessions.
· Carry out rolling, mowing, marking, watering, and fertilising of pitches.
· Repair and renovate wickets post-match and at the end of the season.
· Implement pre-season and post-season ground preparation plans.
· Repair, sweep, roll and remark wickets between innings for Saturday matches
Grounds & Equipment Management
· Oversea the maintenance of the outfield, boundary areas and general club grounds.
· Ensure all machinery and equipment are maintained, serviced, and stored safely.
· Monitor and manage irrigation systems and drainage as required.
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Ensure all work is carried out in line with current Health & Safety regulations.
· Apply pesticides and fertilisers safely and in accordance with legislation.
· Keep accurate records of treatments and maintenance schedules.
Teamwork & Communication
· Liaise with team captains and club officials to plan pitch usage and schedules.
· Supervise and coordinate volunteers or seasonal assistants when necessary.
· Communicate effectively with external contractors and suppliers.
Person Specification
Essential:
· Proven experience in groundskeeping, ideally in a cricket or sports club environment.
· Strong knowledge of cricket pitch preparation and turf management.
· Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings during the season.
Desirable:
· Full UK driving licence.
· Experience managing multiple grounds.
