Main duties of the job
We are recruiting Senior Healthcare Support Workers to join our inpatient nursing team on the Oncology Ward. We're looking for an experienced Healthcare Support Worker with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who is eager to learn and take on new clinical skills to work alongside our nursing teams. We seek an enthusiastic, committed, and professional approach to delivering care, ensuring the best patient and family experience. Candidates should be excellent team players with the ability to use their own initiative and judgment to resolve issues. They should also have a tactful, sensitive manner, work well under pressure, with a flexible approach and a willingness to suggest ideas for improvements.
Previous Healthcare Support Worker experience and successful completion of the Care Certificate (or equivalent healthcare qualification) is essential, along with an ability to demonstrate compassion and a commitment to learning new skills.

Job responsibilities

* Undertake a range of delegated and specific clinical skills demonstrating an enhanced level of competency/technical expertise as documented in the care plan.
* Prepare patients, families/carers, and the environment for clinical activities, supporting and reassuring patients and their families/carers, and preparing specific equipment as necessary.
* Monitor patients closely after clinical procedures to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being.
* Assist all patients of all genders with personal care needs, empowering patients and/or families/carers, encouraging participation, and maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.
* Assess and monitor skin integrity, reporting and documenting any changes or concerns immediately.
* Demonstrate clinical competence in undertaking minor dressings and treatments as specified in the care plan and in consultation with the registered practitioner.
* Encourage patients, families, and carers to share responsibility for health maintenance and promote healthy living where appropriate.
* Assist patients with safe mobilization, considering developmental and physical needs, using prescribed equipment and techniques, and contributing to falls and handling risk assessments.

Qualifications
* Evidence of the Care Certificate.
Experience
* Significant experience within the NHS and/or healthcare setting.
* Experience in a specialist area.
