Would you like to join our team and play a pivotal role, as we start to develop and expand our accessible programming across the gallery and museums?
About The Role
In this role you will help develop, deliver, and coordinate a comprehensive programme of accessible activities at the gallery and museums. These activities will be aligned with the vision, collections and exhibition themes of the museums and gallery. Key audiences targeted for engagement with this programme include D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent children, young people and adults and people living with Dementia and mental health issues. We welcome applications from people bringing lived experience to this role.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting with the delivery of existing accessible programming including at our larger events
* Developing new regular accessible programming for adults across our sites
* Exploring opportunities for new programming for children and young people at the gallery and museum sites
* Delivering accessible creative or heritage themed workshops for children and adults
* Identifying and booking external practitioners with specialisms to deliver workshops.
* Consulting with audiences regarding programme content
* Supporting with the creation of accessible resources such as sensory baskets, large print, visual stories, audio descriptions and Easy Read documents (training will be provided where required)
* To be a point of contact for volunteers.
* Sourcing suitable workshop materials
* Responsibility for maintenance of session resources and reporting back to line manager about stock and resource levels
* To evaluate the programme, feeding back reports to line manager.
* Support wider Museums and Gallery staff with accessible programming including exhibitions
Training Will Be Provided, Including
* Introduction to the Ferens Art and Museums collections
* Evaluation processes
* Accessibility general and for specific projects and resources
What Were Looking For
* This role is ideal for someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about accessibility
* A creative and resourceful individual who is enthusiastic about engaging audiences with art and museums collections.
* Experience of working with D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent children, young people and adults and people living with Dementia and mental health issues
* You should have a strong practical background in developing and leading workshops for a range of audiences including schools, families and adults.
* Experience of booking artists and working with volunteers.
* To have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
* Competent in the use of digital / PCs and basic word processing
