Overview
We are seeking a registered Mental Health Professional to join our team as an MBT Therapist. Richmond Personality Intensive Treatment Team (PDITT) delivers psychological treatment and a care programme approach (CPA) for people who meet the diagnostic criteria for Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) through Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT). We are a small, cohesive, and committed multi-disciplinary team, dedicated to working empathically alongside our patients.
The post holder is expected to:
* Be committed to effective team working and to the coherent delivery of the Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) model.
* Promote and deliver a high standard of patient care.
* Work within the Trust's CPA policy and the standards set out in the Richmond PDITT Operational Policy and PD Pathway criteria.
* Provide out of hours work if required.
Main duties of the job
* Work as a core member of Richmond PDITT.
* Participate in initial screenings for patients referred to the borough-based CEN Pathway Referrals Meetings, conduct specialist assessments, provide planned assessment and engagement sessions for MBT, and prepare patients for MBT Introductory Workshops.
* Hold a caseload of CEN Pathway Assessment Patients.
* Co-facilitate MBT Introductory Workshops.
* Provide an In-Reach component to engage with in-patients or to link with other Trust teams considering referrals to Richmond PDITT and to convey the function of the CEN Pathway processes.
* Work alongside senior clinicians to ensure MBT Intensive Treatment Programme is delivered, monitored, and evaluated, including group work as required.

Job responsibilities
* To provide specialist assessments for patients referred, using complex data from diverse sources, including psychological testing, self-report measures, rating scales, structured observations, or semi-structured interviews with patients, others involved in care, and, when indicated, with family/significant others.
* To formulate and implement care plans for patients being assessed or engaging with the MBT Intensive Treatment Programme, including risk management and addressing physical health, vocational, and financial needs, using MBT-based interventions with evidence of efficacy.
* To evaluate and make clinical decisions at team level about treatment options in line with theoretical and therapeutic models, considering historical and developmental processes shaping the individual.
* To manage an individual caseload that includes MBT individual and group-based interventions.
* To provide specialist clinical advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to patients’ formulation, diagnosis, and care plans, drawing on MBT expertise.
* To contribute to the MBT framework of understanding and care for all patients within the service and across settings and agencies.
* To undertake risk assessment and formal risk management planning for individual patients and provide advice on risk assessment to other services.
* To act as care co-ordinator for allocated patients, take responsibility for care planning and treatment reviews under enhanced CPA, and to signpost named carers as agreed with the patient while maintaining co-working relationships within the patient’s network. To prepare reports, attend and contribute to CPA meetings, and manage a defined caseload within CPA policy and Mental Health Act frameworks.
* To ensure effective communication at team level to sustain a whole-team approach to patient care and containment.
* To implement and participate in crisis intervention measures with the patient or in collaboration with other agencies or significant others.
Person Specification
Essential
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* Core Mental Health Profession registered with an appropriate professional body (NMC, UKCP, HCPC, SWE)
* Postgraduate qualification including supervised and assessed psychotherapeutic training
* Formal MBT training with at least two years supervised experience, with MBT supervision, and completion of MBT Introductory and Advanced Practitioner training, at least six months apart

* Post-registration qualification in group work

* Demonstrable experience of working with adults with mental health problems in various community settings
* Experience of MDT working
* Experience of inter-agency working
* Experience of working with clients with a diagnosis of personality disorder

Knowledge & Skills

* Good knowledge of Risk Assessment procedures and ability to make significant clinical decisions from this.

* Capacity for reflection and willingness to use clinical supervision
* Knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical governance and related knowledge for research and audit
* Good knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management

* Knowledge of legislation related to the client group and mental health
