POST TITLE: Laundry Supervisor
RESPONSIBLE TO: Cleaning Service Cleaning Manager
Job Purpose
To supervise the day to day operation of the Education Authority Laundry Service, ensuring the effective laundering, preparation, and distribution of all microfibre mops and cloths for schools. The postholder is responsible for managing the collection and delivery schedule, overseeing laundry processes, ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene standards, and providing line management and support to the Laundry Assistant.
1.0 Duties and Responsibilities
1.1.1 Supervise the daily laundering, drying, and preparation of microfibre mops and cloths to ensure high standards of hygiene and efficiency.
1.1.2 Allocate and oversee daily tasks for the Laundry Assistant.
1.1.3 Ensure accurate recording of quantities received, laundered, packed, and dispatched.
1.1.4 Monitor the condition of microfibre stock and report shortages or replacements required.
1.2.1 Organise, plan, and manage the delivery and collection routes for Belfast schools.
1.2.2 Ensure timely distribution of clean laundry and collection of soiled items.
1.2.3 Drive EA vehicles for deliveries when required.
1.2.4 Update and maintain delivery logs, route schedules, and tracking records.
1.3.1 Provide day to day supervision, direction, and support to the Laundry Assistant.
1.3.2 Participate in staff induction, on‑the‑job training, and refresher training as required.
1.3.3 Assist with monitoring performance and ensuring adherence to EA procedures.
1.3.4 Manage staff absence, reporting, and cover arrangements in accordance with EA policies.
1.4.1 Ensure laundry machinery and equipment are used safely, cleaned regularly, and maintained in line with manufacturer and EA guidelines.
1.4.2 Report equipment faults immediately and follow maintenance reporting procedures.
1.4.3 Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organised working environment.
1.5.1 Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, COSHH Regulations, manual‑handling guidelines, and EA policies.
1.5.2 Ensure PPE and protective clothing are worn by staff.
1.5.3 Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation as required.
2.0 General Conditions
2.1 All duties must be carried out in compliance with statutory regulations, EA policies, and approved Codes of Practice.
2.2 Duties will be carried out in the working conditions normally inherent to a commercial laundry and delivery environment.
2.3 The postholder must hold a full, current driving licence suitable for EA vehicle use.
2.4 Absence, timekeeping, and reporting procedures must be followed in accordance with EA policies.
2.5 Protective clothing and flat‑soled enclosed‑toe footwear must be worn at all times.
2.6 All equipment must be operated safely and maintained appropriately, with defects reported immediately.
2.7 The postholder may be required to undertake duties up to and including their grade, provided they fall within their competence.
3.0 Training
3.1 The postholder will undertake all training required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, including training associated with any higher‑level duties when required.
3.2 Employees must undertake training to support all duties up to and including their own grade, including Induction Training, Refresher Training, and safety/compliance training related to laundry equipment and vehicle use.
