Driver & Crane Operator - Nights
(Temporary Role - Potential for Permanent)
Base Location: Thurleigh, Bedfordshire
Start Date: 21st or 28th July 2025
Expected Completion: 24th October 2025
Rate: £21.00 per hour (Minimum 10 hours per shift)
Accommodation: Provided for the right candidate (with sustenance allowance)
We are a recruitment agency supporting a national infrastructure contractor seeking an experienced and flexible Driver & Crane Operator (HIAB) for a temporary night shift role. This position may become permanent based on site performance and commitment.
Shift Details:
Night work only
Report to compound at 19:00 for induction and SOS briefing
Load 32T Beavertail with materials (with telehandler support)
Travel to site (approx. 30 mins), begin work by 21:00
Work until 03:30 / 04:00, return to compound by 04:00 / 04:30
10-hour minimum paid per shift
Tasks / Duties:
Undertake vehicle safety defect checks prior to start of shift and log electronically using our Re-Flow field software system (accessible from a free download App on phone or tablet) - a tablet can be provided if required.
Load and secure items of plant and materials from the site compound.
Travel to site and access at the designated location briefed during induction / SOS briefing from site compound. Access locations are very likely to alter throughout the duration of the scheme.
HIAB offload of materials into position. Materials initially include 3200mm long 152x152 UC Posts and 3000 x 1500mm steel panels. The candidate must be a competent and confident lorry loader. We have VeRSco employed slingers and a lift supervisor on site to oversee and assist in lifting operations.
General duties on site associated with fence installation when not operating the HIAB at the discretion of our site supervisor, who is personable and has reasonable expectations (the candidate is not expected to have any experience in this field, although this would be ideal).
Plant on / off site. The candidate would not be expected to operate the plant on or off the Beavertail bed, but they should understand how to secure items of plant. Items of plant include Genie 45 MEWP and Telehandler. Please note that plant movements to and from the compound will be seldom.
Load materials from site to take back into the compound.
Required Tickets / Experience:
Holder of a valid Digital Tachograph Card and minimum Class 2 HGV License for a minimum of three years - Mandatory
CSCS - Green Card Holder (minimum) - Mandatory
ALLMI / CPCS / NPORS Lorry Loader (hook) - Mandatory
CPCS / NPORS Slinger Signaller (all types all duties) - Mandatory
Over the age of 25 - Insurance Requirement
The candidate must have some experience of working on highways / trunk roads within traffic management on National Highways sites
The candidate must be a competent and confident lorry loader
The candidate must be prepared to assist on site when not driving or operating the HIAB

Ideally located within 1 hour of Thurleigh, but accommodation and sustenance support is available for the right candidate
