Job Type: Part-time. This is a fixed-term, part-time role. You will be employed as a freelancer for 17 days at London Living Wage, responsible for your own taxes and national insurance.

We aim to recruit 8 trainees for a heritage project: Lost & Found: Untold maritime histories of Greenwich and Deptford revealed through a mudlark’s finds.
Trainees will be paid London Living Wage for 17 days over 7 weeks. You will work with Thames mudlark Nicola White, using her finds to explore maritime histories of Greenwich and Deptford. The programme includes visits to the Cutty Sark, London Museum Docklands, Deptford Creek, and Thames foreshore, along with training in archives, curation, and copywriting. You will collaborate with a designer to develop a touring pop-up exhibition for Totally Thames 2025, with mentorship from heritage professionals.
This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in heritage, museums, arts, and culture sectors. No prior experience required. Applications are encouraged from individuals aged 18-25 in Greenwich or Lewisham, but open to all.
About Lost & Found
This project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to uncover maritime histories through objects found by mudlark Nicola White, revealing stories often absent from written records. The project will involve research, curation, photography, publication, and public events, showcasing the diverse heritage of Greenwich and Deptford.
Duties & Responsibilities
* Attend induction, training, and visits at various London locations, mainly Creekside Discovery Centre, Deptford.
* Research and interpret maritime stories related to Greenwich and Deptford.
* Contribute to the development of a pop-up exhibition with a professional designer.
* Collaborate with project staff, mudlarks, artists, and researchers.
* Participate in scheduled visits and workshops on specific dates listed in the original description.
* Independent research to be completed over two days at your discretion.

Terms of Contract

You will be employed as a freelancer, responsible for your taxes and national insurance, invoicing weekly or monthly, with wages paid in arrears.
