Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities : Support and assist the Transport Manager to ensure all functions of the operation run smoothly and efficiently. To ensure the vehicle is legal and roadworthy at all times - all daily checks are completed in line with the ‘Daily Vehicle Check Sheet’ and in line with the 'Guide to maintaining roadworthiness'. To ensure any vehicle defects are reported in line with current Defect Reporting Procedure. All defects must be completed on a company defect sheet and must be signed by a manager Act as an ambassador for the Company when meeting customers, creating an excellent impression. Carry out multi-drop deliveries in a timely and safe manner. Drive the vehicle safely and in accordance with the law. Drive within tachograph law and driver hours limits. Ensure the correct goods have been loaded and are secure before moving the vehicle Check goods off with Customers and obtain signature and print Ensure that on arrival the delivery is safe to make and respect customer’s property; if in doubt, consult with customer and/or Transport Manager. All vehicles are to be kept in a clean and presentable condition at all time, both internally and externally, any problem, accidental damage etc., should be reported immediately to the Transport Manager. Vehicles must not be smoked in and note that it is illegal to smoke in company vehicles. The current Smoking Policy also includes the use of Electronic cigarettes. Report any accidents as soon as possible and in compliance with the company’s accident reporting procedure. Download driver tachograph card weekly. Work within the guidelines of working time regulations. (Road Transport Directive) Be aware of the vehicle inspection rota for servicing and MOT and bring to the Transport manager attention if necessary. Attend essential training in order to carry out the driver role. To ensure that your DCPC periodic training hours are maintained and completed within the five-year period. Adhere to all company policies and procedures, to include the Company Dress Code Policy, Mobile Phone Policy, Standards of Performance Policy and Health and Safety Policy. Leave on time to achieve your first booking time. Complete all auditable functions/records required by the Company. Ensure if cash is collected it is placed into the vehicle safe. Ensure personal protective equipment is worn at all times and it is your responsibility to ensure that you’re issued PPE is clean and kept in good repair. Refuel both the unit and the trailer fuel tanks ensuring that you enter the fuel totals on your journey sheet in the boxes provided. Clean out the inside of the cab leaving it ready for the next driver, remembering to report any issues to the Transport Manager. Key Skills / Attributes • Excellent communication skills. • Numerical and focused on accuracy. • Pays attention to detail. • Good team member. • Full Driving Licence and Digi-Tacho holder and DQC card holder. • Good driving skills and knowledge of current Road Transport Regulations. • Smart & courteous manner. Vehicle overloading It is Group policy that NO vehicle will leave if the driver thinks that the vehicle has been overloaded. If you are in any doubt as to the weight or conformity of the load you must inform the traffic office immediately and you must ensure that the vehicle is weighed prior to departure.
