We support a gentleman in his 50s who enjoys being outdoors and has lovely gardens accessible to both of you. He would like someone who can check in and provide companionship, preferably in the evenings or on weekends, as he has daily activities. He loves music and loud noises, and would like a visitor approximately once every two months.
We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities, matching passionate visitors with individuals' hobbies and interests. Visitors typically visit six times a year, often being the only non-paid person in the person's life. This is a check-in visit role; visits are usually short, around 30 minutes or less. Some individuals may be unable to communicate verbally or may choose not to meet; however, your visit remains important.
During visits, you might:
* Check on their well-being and speak with support staff for updates
* Bring treats like chocolates or fruit
* Engage with sensory experiences if preferred
Your qualities as a volunteer include being friendly, approachable, accepting, reliable, patient, and passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities.
