Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join a very experienced team in detailed assessments. We are looking for a Level 3 social worker to predominantly undertake Special Guardianship assessments, which we need to complete in 12 weeks as per SG guidance. We are seeking someone who puts children at the heart of everything they do and understands the importance of a child’s permanence. Our assessments are part of key planning in relation to the child’s care plan and support determining the child’s minority; this work is important.
Responsibilities
* Undertake Special Guardianship assessments with a focus on timely delivery within 12 weeks.
* Collaborate with the child’s social worker, other agencies, and applicants to prepare a thorough, comprehensive, and detailed report.
* Develop assessments in depth with knowledge of special guardianship regulations and best practice guidance.
* Attend court and provide evidence as required (court attendance experience is helpful).
* Work within the Fostering service as part of a stand-alone team, with potential Kinship assessments that may include SG or full fostering.
* Travel as required, with business insurance and occasional overnight stays.
Qualifications and Skills
* Qualified social worker with SWE registration and hold a Diploma and/or degree in social work.
* Good planning, organisational, and analytical skills; able to work quickly and effectively to meet tight turnaround deadlines.
* Knowledge of fostering is helpful; training will be provided.
* Reflective, proactive, resilient, and passionate about placing children’s voices at the heart of practice.
Team and Support
You will have the support of the team manager, SGO assessment colleagues, and the wider fostering service.

Benefits and pay
The pay range for this role is £47,181–£53,460 (pro rata for part-time staff). The Recruitment & Retention Supplement for this role may be up to £3,249 per annum (pro rata for part-time staff). Details reflect the council’s pay framework and fairness considerations.
