They support the design and delivery of biomarker study work packages, contribute to statistical analysis plans, and independently analyse volatile organic compound (VOC), playing an important role in ensuring scientific accuracy, biological relevance, and alignment with study objectives across projects. The role also involves contributing to the preparation of scientific materials for external audiences, working with commercial teams to tailor content to customer needs This is a hands-on, delivery focussed role that provides opportunities to build experience in biomarker science, data interpretation, and customer-facing work, Success in the role requires scientific credibility, autonomy, the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, and an understanding of customer priorities and commercial context, allowing the postholder to serve as a critical interface between Owlstone’s technical and commercial teams, and customers. Role Requirements Success in this role will be measured by the ability to deliver in the following areas: Breath Biopsy OMNI Services Support the design and execution of clinical studies by contributing to biomarker work packages, under the guidance of senior scientists and technical leads. Collaborate with Biostatisticians to help define statistical objectives and support the development and review of analysis plans. Conduct independent analyses of volatile organic compound (VOC) and clinical data to support biological interpretation, with appropriate oversight. Draft or contribute to scientific outputs including reports, data summaries, and presentations for internal and external use, ensuring accuracy and clarity. Support data quality checks and verification of clinical datasets, escalating issues when data may be unsuitable for downstream analysis. Ensure outputs meet review standards prior to customer delivery, contributing to technical accuracy and consistency. Contribute to the identification of technical or operational risks and support continuous improvement by sharing insights from project experience and literature review, helping to build the case for prioritised enhancements. Commercial Support Contribute scientific input to externally facing materials, including tailored slide decks and explanatory content, in collaboration with senior colleagues. Participate in customer meetings when appropriate, supporting technical discussions and helping to answer focused biomarker-related questions. Help ensure alignment between Owlstone’s scientific capabilities and customer needs by coordinating with the sales and marketing teams. Broader Contributions Play an active role in the success of the Breath Biopsy OMNI study program and wider business by: Supporting a collaborative and quality-focused team culture by sharing learning and offering peer review or paired working where appropriate. Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing activities such as seminars, workflow refinement discussions, or protocol reviews. Assist in onboarding or supporting junior team members, as needed. Take ownership of personal development by building relevant scientific and technical knowledge through guided learning and proactive engagement with literature and training opportunities. Person Specification Knowledge You will require: Knowledge of pathophysiology and its relevance to disease mechanisms and biomarker development, particularly in applied clinical contexts. A foundational understanding of molecular and cellular biology, and how these inform the interpretation of clinical biomarker data. Familiarity with key biomarker applications, such as diagnosis, stratification, disease monitoring, and treatment response. The ability to interpret and contextualise scientific data, including breath-based volatile organic compounds (VOCs), using published literature and internal resources. Awareness of principles related to clinical data quality, governance, and ethical standards, including the importance of regulatory compliance in biomarker research. Knowledge of the following would be advantageous: - Familiarity with clinical study design, particularly relating to biomarker endpoints and statistical considerations. Exposure to project workflows in regulated environments, including awareness of quality management systems such as ISO 9001. Basic understanding of statistical principles and their application to biomarker analyses in clinical studies. Experience You should have demonstrable experience of: Hands-on involvement in clinical, translational, or biomarker research, ideally with exposure to study design or delivery processes. Working with complex scientific data, contributing to its interpretation, and clearly communicating findings to technical colleagues. Collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams, such as clinical, analytical, and statistical functions. Preparing scientific reports, presentations, or technical documentation to support internal or external stakeholders. The following experience would be advantageous: - Experience working with or interpreting omics data types (e.g., metabolomics, proteomics) in clinical or research settings. Experience authoring or contributing to peer reviewed scientific publications Experience working within an accredited quality management system (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485). EDUCATION A degree in biology, biochemistry, biomedical science or a related discipline or equivalent relevant experience in biomedical, clinical, or commercial settings. A higher degree (e.g., MSc) or further experience in a commercial research environment is desirable but not essential.
