Responsibilities
* Work as a Paediatric Emergency Department Assistant within a high pressured, fast moving environment.
* Prioritise and deliver care to patients.
* Demonstrate high standards of care and set examples of best practice within the delivery of patient care in the Emergency Department.
* Ensure patients' safety, privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.
* Assist in age‑related play and distraction therapy.
* Support the registered nurses of the Emergency Department.
* Undertake duties determined by the Department Managers and Matron including working within the main department during times of surge.
* Comply with all relevant policies and procedures to maintain the safety of patients within the Emergency Department.
* Ensure patient safety, comfort and welfare and provide support to relatives and advocates as required.

Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care
Experience
* Experience as a Health Care Assistant in a permanent post.
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Experience of organising and prioritising own workload.
* Experience of NHS computer systems.
* Experience in the Emergency Department.
Skills & Attributes
* Basic IT skills to document on the electronic patient record.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to recognise when support is required.
* Ability to make shared clinical and professional decisions taking into consideration Trust/Departmental Policies/Procedures.
* Flexible.
* Good organisational skills.
* Knowledge and practical experience of manual handling.
* Ability to communicate effectively in English, in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding and refer questions to others where appropriate.
* Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
* Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting.
* Willingness to use equipment; full training provided.
* Observation training.
* ECG training.
* Venepuncture training.
* Understanding of professional conduct and confidentiality.
* Able to perform a wide range of duties.
* Cannulation training.
