The Jefferiss Wing at St Mary's Hospital is on the lookout for a proactive, empathetic, and non-judgmental Healthcare Assistant to join our forward-thinking nursing team within the Integrated Sexual Health Service.

Main duties of the job
* Following training and assessment record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate and pain scores. Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse.
* Following training and assessment perform venepuncture, microscopy, administer HIV point of care tests, pregnancy tests and urinalysis reporting abnormalities to the nurse in charge.
* Following training and assessment, undertake screening for sexually transmitted infections including male urethral swabs, skin swabs and male and female throat swabs.
* Measure, record and report capillary blood glucose levels of patients when required.
* Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to nurse in charge.
* Preparation and assisting with clinical procedures including chaperoning.

Person Specification
Education
* QCF Level 3 in Health or equivalent (NVQ3, Advanced Apprenticeship) Numerate
* Able to speak and write English to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements.
Experience
* Demonstrate a clear insight into the role.
* Up to date experience - worked within an acute care setting within the last 18 months.
* Willing to learn venepuncture and other relevant skills
Skills
* Ability to work well within the team.
* Ability to demonstrate caring approach
* Good communication skills - both oral and written
* Ability to work on own initiative.
* Ability to perform venepuncture
