ICP Estimating Engineer
The ICP Estimating Engineer is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for Integrated Control & Protection systems used in substations, power generation facilities, HV/MV electrical networks, and industrial automation environments.
This role requires strong technical knowledge in protection relays, control panels, SCADA/RTU systems, PLCs, communication protocols, LV/MV switchgear, and relevant standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Review & Scope Definition: Review client specifications, single line diagrams, protection schemes, I/O lists, system architecture drawings, and tender documents.
- Identify project scope, technical requirements, and any compliance gaps.
- Analyze control & protection philosophies and propose appropriate solutions.
- Protection relays (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE); RTU/SCADA/PLC systems; interface cabling, wiring, hardware; software engineering, testing, commissioning.
- Create complete bid packages, including Bill of Quantities, technical clarifications, cost breakdowns, pricing justifications; ensure proposals comply with timeliness and commercial requirements.
- Request quotations and technical information from OEMs and suppliers; evaluate offers.
- Maintain updated pricing databases for protection relays, panels, SCADA hardware, network equipment, and engineering services.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and project management teams; attend pre‑bid meetings, site visits, client discussions; participate in handover meetings.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare estimation summaries, risk assessments, cost analyses.
- Maintain bid logs, revision histories, tender status tracking.
- Support continuous improvement of estimation tools and templates.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Power, Control Systems Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- 2–7 years estimating, engineering, or technical sales of ICP, protection, control systems.
- Experience with SCADA/RTU/PLC systems, LV/MV control and protection schemes, IED configuration and panel integration; EPC, utility, substation background advantageous.
Technical Skills
- SCADA architectures and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104).
- Switchgear interlocking and scheme drawings.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, estimating software, technical documentation tools.
