The role of Practice Educator provides a significant contribution to the support and development of pre-registration students and post-registration education and training.

Its purpose is to underline the link between clinical education and practice and to assist all staff in bridging any gaps - either in terms of application, understanding or research.

The post holder will operate from an evidence based perspective and will work with managers in coaching and supporting staff as they develop their practice.

The key deliverables are:

* To facilitate and maintain an effective learning environment within the clinical setting.
* To contribute to the organisation and delivery of practice-related training and teaching for staff and apprentices within a clinical setting.
* To ensure all qualified staff are given equal access to training opportunities and any associated available funding.
* To ensure the department Mandatory Training compliance rate meets the Trust targets.

We are therefore looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic radiographer to drive the education and development of the staff, developing strategies to enhance staff recruitment, staff engagement and career development.


Main duties of the job

Work with the Radiology Management team to ensure that the training, education and continuous professional development needs of the Radiography workforce are met to ensure safe and effective patient care and practice

Support and monitor delivery and quality of clinical supervision, annual appraisals and personal development plans. Ensuring all staff have clinical supervision and appraisals

This post will ensure all post graduate radiographers have access and understanding of Radiography development and practises both here at ULH NHS Trust and in the wider Radiology community

The post-holder will be required to maintain clinical competency at Band 7 level and take on the full responsibilities of that role when required

The post holder will work with and report to the Radiology Operational Manager and the Clinical Superintendents to ensure all staff have the same level of education and development

Pilgrim Hospital is situated in beautiful countryside and serves the communities in the South Lincolnshire area. It provides all major specialties and a 24-hour major accident and emergency service.

Grantham and District Hospital serves the communities of Grantham and the local area. It provides ambulatory paediatric and accident and emergency services.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).


Job responsibilities

Liaise with the Radiology Operational Management team, Radiography Superintendents, Consultant Radiologists and Consultant AHP's, to identify the development and training needs of the current and future Radiography/Radiology workforce, in line with individual staff needs and service requirements

Develop, implement and evaluate competency based training programmes and facilitate learning opportunities to meet the educational and skills development needs of Diagnostic Radiography staff

Facilitate and support the development and implementation of preceptorship programmes for newly appointed staff

Monitoring performance and working with Site and Team leads to take remedial action where required

Act as a clinical role model for effective clinical leadership enabling and facilitating others to take forward initiatives supporting staff members to engage in external courses/post-graduate qualifications

Work with quality system manager to ensure that training and development documentation and processes are in line with national and local requirements


Person Specification


Qualifications

* HCPC Registration
* Professional qualification in Diagnostic Radiography
* Commitment to advanced clinical and professional development throughout career as demonstrated by CPD portfolio
* Professional body membership
* Post Graduate level study in relevant subjects to Masters level or equivalent
* Teaching Qualification


Experience

* Substantial experience of leading and managing a team
* Experience of contributing to policy, planning and service development
* Service monitoring and evaluation
* Experience of designing, undertaking and analysing clinical audit utilising approved research methodology
* Substantial experience of recruitment, Development and performance management of students/staff
* Evidence of participation in Clinical Governance
* Evidence of ability to lead successful change
* Presentation of own work at conference level
* Experience of organising/delivering learning opportunities at under graduate and post-graduate level
* Publication of project work / research in a recognised journal
* Substantial clinical post qualification experience with at least 2 years at Band 7 or equivalent


Knowledge and skills

* Contemporary knowledge of current and developing practice of profession
* Knowledge of contemporary issues in profession and NHS, politically aware
* Very well-developed communication skills, including effective negotiating and influencing skills.
* Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
* Very effective presentation skills both written and verbal
* Excellent Team Leadership skills
* Knowledge of time-management skills with proven ability to meet conflicting demands, targets and deadlines
* Ability to produce accurate analyses of statistical data and reports
* Knowledge of Health and Safety agenda including manual handling and risk management and able to implement for service
* Proficient in the use of IT including MS Word, PowerPoint, email and internet
* Ability to be pro-active and innovative
