A top-tier Legal 500 and Chambers-ranked firm is seeking a skilled Barrister to join its expanding Regulatory & Professional Discipline practice in Leeds or Manchester.


This is an exceptional opportunity to specialise in high-profile professional discipline cases across health, legal and education sectors. You’ll primarily focus on advocacy, presenting cases at final substantive hearings and representing regulators at interim applications and case management hearings. Cases include allegations of dishonesty, fraud, sexual misconduct and serious professional misconduct. There will also be opportunities to work with expert witnesses and support vulnerable individuals to give their best evidence.


Key Responsibilities

* Lead advocacy at final hearings, interim applications, and case management hearings
* Present a wide spectrum of professional discipline cases, including complex or high-profile matters
* Contribute to case strategy, including evidence review, allegation drafting, opening notes, skeleton arguments, written applications, and legal advice
* Provide guidance on legal and evidential issues arising during investigations and case preparation
* Support continuous improvement projects and training for panel members and in-house teams
* Engage with clients nationally, providing advice and support across the regulatory lifecycle
* Opportunities to appear in the High Court and First Tier Tribunal on regulatory appeals (dependent on experience)


The Candidate

* Qualified Barrister (England & Wales) with proven advocacy experience, ideally in professional discipline/fitness-to-practise matters
* Confident and capable of leading hearings and presenting complex cases
* Strong technical knowledge across regulatory law, professional standards and evidence
* Excellent communication, analytical and case management skills
* Able to support and mentor junior team members while maintaining high standards of client service
* Comfortable working on complex or sensitive matters, often involving vulnerable witnesses
