Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist - Urology

Leading the Urology Clinical Nurse Specialists, the post holder will provide clinical leadership for the team and develop a strategy that directs the growing Urology services. The post holder will develop and manage the workforce so that staff are able to perform procedures such as transperineal biopsies and cystoscopy. The successful applicant will serve as the link between divisional management, cancer management and the wider nursing team.
Main duties of the job
The Lead CNS for Urology services will provide clinical leadership, service management and line management to the Urology CNS team/service.
The Lead Urology CNS will deliver expert clinical care at an enhanced level and support Band 7 CNSs within their practice.
A Clinical Nurse Specialist is a registered nurse with relevant experience and post‑registration education for working at an enhanced level within a specific area of practice. They assess, manage, deliver care, advise on and support patients.
The Lead CNS for Urology services has the autonomy to act and accept responsibility and accountability for actions, acting as a skilled advisor for patients or a resource for others.
The Lead Urology CNS performs specialist holistic assessment and treatment using a personalised approach, characterised by decision making based on detailed knowledge and understanding of their area of practice.
As part of the multidisciplinary team, CNSs can work in or across many settings, depending on their area of expertise and scope of practice.
The Lead Urology CNS will work collaboratively with the Trust Lead Cancer Nurse to deliver personalised care in line with the NHS Cancer Plan, using holistic needs assessment (HNA) to meet changing needs.
Job responsibilities
The Lead CNS for Urology services will work collaboratively with the Trust Lead Cancer Nurse, the cancer management team, the wider trust, RM Partners Cancer Alliance and other stakeholders to raise the profile of cancer nursing, promote patient‑centred services and contribute to high‑quality cancer care.
The Lead Urology CNS will provide expert clinical supervision and leadership to the CNS team, operationally manage the service and staff, and be instrumental in the pathway management of Urology cancer patients.
The Lead Urology CNS will develop and strengthen clinical pathways with a focus on prostate care, support patient‑initiated follow‑up and remote monitoring, and lead the development of the service strategy to meet the needs of Hillingdon.
Depending on experience, the Lead Urology CNS is expected to work clinically across the Urology pathway as an ACP or CNS.

Person Specification
* NMC registration
* Post‑registration qualification(s) in Urology, Cancer or a related specialty at level 7
* MSc or MA in a related specialty
* Leadership and Management course(s)
* Substantial post‑registration experience at Band 7 or above, including relevant CNS experience
* Recognised teaching qualification and advanced communication skills
* Advanced physical assessment and clinical reasoning qualification
* Research experience and publications
