Job overview
Applications are invited for the position of Locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. This is for 12 months maternity leave cover.
We anticipate the successful candidate will embrace all aspects of the speciality including surgery, audit, research, innovation and education. We welcome candidates who will work to expand the surgical repertoire of the team and drive clinical initiatives.
Main duties of the job
All surgeons practice Oncoplastic breast surgery (including therapeutic mammoplasty), lipo-modelling and immediate breast reconstruction for mastectomy patients with pedicle flaps (LD and TRAM) and implant-based reconstruction with biological mesh.
The breast team is committed to a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer and work in close collaboration with 3 consultant Breast oncologists who provide adjuvant treatments and Plastic Surgery colleagues at the Royal Preston Hospital site who provide free perforator flap support
This is a full time 10 PA post consisting of outpatient clinics, theatre time, MDT meetings and associated admin time with SPA.
Working for our organisation
The Trust is a cancer centre and has a radiotherapy unit based at the Royal Preston Hospital Site. The Central Lancashire Breast Unit, based at the Chorley & South Ribble Hospital site was opened in July 2012.
In the mammography suite there are 2 digital mammogram machines equipped for stereotactic and vacuum assisted biopsies. There are also 2 ultrasound rooms and a further 2 portable ultrasound machines for use in the clinic. Most biopsies are performed by the radiology team under image guidance.
New patient breast clinics are run across the week (10 clinics per week) with biopsy results discussed on a Thursday in the MDT meeting.
The service treats approximately 330 per cancers per annum. There are 9 dedicated breast surgery theatre sessions per week.
There is a well-established breast care nurse team who run both cancer follow-up clinics and results clinics.

Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* MBBS or equivalent
* FRCS Part III
* Inclusion on the specialist register
* Have obtained a higher medical degree (MD or PhD)
* Higher Medical Degree (MD or MSc)
* Have undertaken an TIG Oncoplastic fellowship in breast surgery for 12 months
