Role: Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Manchester
Work Pattern: Hybrid (4 in office, 1 from home)
Salary: £40,000-£50,000
This organisation is seeking a skilled Infrastructure Engineer with a background in Service Desk operations to join its growing team. This role suits an individual who enjoys working across a wide range of technologies and is ready to take the next step by becoming more involved in infrastructure ownership, project delivery, and technical decision-making.
As the environment continues to evolve, this candidate will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility, contribute to improvement initiatives, and progress into more senior infrastructure positions. The role offers hands-on experience, exposure to complex systems, and guided development to help deepen technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
* Overseeing the stability, performance, and ongoing improvement of on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
* Acting as a technical escalation point for the Service Desk, resolving complex or high-impact issues.
* Managing core infrastructure services, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Entra Connect, and Group Policy.
* Administering identity, access, and security controls across the organisation.
* Maintaining virtualisation, remote access, and application hosting platforms such as Hyper-V, RDS, and IIS.
* Supporting and enhancing Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online hybrid environments.
* Managing device and application policies through Intune MDM.
* Ensuring reliable network operations, including VLAN configuration, DHCP, DNS, and TCP/IP troubleshooting.
* Delivering support for business applications, Office apps, hardware, and bespoke systems.
* Using PowerShell and other tooling to automate routine tasks and optimise processes.
* Contributing to documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of infrastructure practices.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Strong Service Desk / IT Support background with a passion for progressing into deeper infrastructure roles.
* Experience with:
* Windows Server, AD, Entra ID, Entra Connect
* Hyper-V
* RDS, IIS
* Microsoft 365 & EXO/Hybrid
* Conditional Access
* Networking (VLANs, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP)
* Intune MDM
* Office Apps & bespoke app support
* Hardware troubleshooting
* SQL (basic), HTML, PowerShell
