Job Overview
General Porters will work in the patient friendly Weston Hospital, providing a high‑standard portering service across the facility. This role supports clinical operations by moving patients and visitors between wards and departments, managing waste, and responding to emergency bleeps.
Main Duties
* Provide a portering and messenger service including the transfer of patients and visitors between wards and departments
* Move and manage waste within the hospital
* Maintain confidentiality and attend trust training
* Respond to emergency bleeps including cardiac arrest, fire, and major trauma
* Assist with other tasks as required

Qualifications
* Sound secondary education
* NVQ in Support Services in Health Care (if not held, must obtain within 12 months)
Knowledge
* Efficiency at delegating and prioritising workload using telephone, porter trace system, bleep and two‑way radio system
* Fitness to work safely in a clinical environment dealing with heavy and unpredictable loads
* Previous experience of hospital portering
Skills
* Understanding of customer care and the role of a hospital porter
* Ability to care for others
* Sound judgement on priority tasks under pressure and when workload is extremely high
Employer Certification / Accreditation
The postholder will regularly interact with vulnerable people and must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check as required by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020.
