Location Accountant – NEC, Birmingham | Full-Time / Permanent

As Location Accountant, you will business partner the venues General Manager and their Heads of Department, responsible for the financial support of the largest individual contract in the region. You will perform a high‑profile role, developing skills in working collaboratively with the client and internally across functions and other stakeholders. Through effective business partnering the role will continually improve service levels, cost‑effectiveness and add value to commercial activities undertaken.
Key Accountabilities (Purpose: Commercial Support)
* Business partnering with the GM and HOD’s to ensure strong commercial and operational decision‑making, managing financial risks and opportunities; supporting ops in delivering budgeted sales, PBIT and margin as well as delivering agreed returns for clients.
* Delivering proactive financial analysis with summarised findings and recommendations to support decision‑making; using the latest dashboards from E15 Insights and working collaboratively with the finance team.
* Taking responsibility for the venue’s financial controls and processes, including raising invoices, cash reporting, credit card reconciliation, reviewing the PO Log, event ETA’s, monthly R&A process, weekly flash process and budget process.
Performance
* Deliver analysis of key business reporting such as dashboards, month‑end reports, business reviews, client reports, budgets, flash forecasts and other ad‑hoc analysis to be discussed at monthly/weekly reviews.
* Challenge operational teams and highlight risks to achievement to the GM and FBP; key metrics include GP %, labour‑to‑sales ratio and unit margin %.
* Assist in training operational teams on business reporting and KPIs to improve their financial performance.
* Populate monthly balance sheet documents for review, escalating key risks and opportunities to GM & FBP.
* Co‑lead the budgeting and forecasting process for the venue.
* Attend client finance meetings when required – reporting on their return and resolving contractual issues.
* Contribute to future planning and strategic decision‑making processes.
People – Relationship Management
* Work effectively as part of finance and operational teams.
* Build relationships with key finance stakeholders.
* Support the learning of finance apprentices and share best practice.
Candidate Requirements – Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience
* Experience in business partnering with non‑finance professionals to support sound financial information.
* Part‑qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) preferred.
* Experience in management accounting, inclusive of accounting adjustments and producing reports/analysis to support commercial decision‑making.
* Analytical with a high level of attention to detail.

* Commercial astuteness and quick turnaround across multiple deadlines throughout the year.
* Attention to detail – ensuring accuracy and meaningfulness of results and analysis.

* Build relationships with stakeholders (in Compass and external clients, ops and finance). Engage, interact and challenge to achieve optimal business outcomes.
* Effective communicator, able to convey information orally and in writing concisely and logically at all levels – to finance and non‑finance people.
Presenting Detailed Information Clearly
* Know the details and be data numerate: comfortable working with dashboards and data warehouses to make data‑driven decisions.
* Understand core drivers/issues and present them succinctly and appropriately for the audience.
* Assess opportunities for improvement.
Desirable
* Experience with SAP and E15 / Power BI as analysis and reporting tools.
