Join us as a Professional Support Lawyer within Barclays UK (BUK) Legal. The BUK Legal team ensures that the consumer banking activities of Barclays Bank UK PLC are conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations (LRRs), helping the bank manage legal and regulatory risks associated with those activities.
As the team’s Professional Support Lawyer and a member of the BUK Corporate Functions Legal team, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing a laws, rules, and regulations (LRRs) knowledge management strategy. You will also support the BUK Legal team in advising and managing legal risk arising from new LRRs in compliance with Barclays policies and standards.
To be successful in this role, you will:
* be a qualified lawyer with financial regulatory experience;
* be able to navigate the FCA Handbook and PRA Rulebook;
* have an understanding of working in a highly regulated financial institution.
Additional valued skills may include experience of ringfencing, the appointed representative regime, or consumer banking products and regulation, as well as experience in stakeholder management and senior-level briefings.
This role will be based in Glasgow.
Purpose of the role
To act as a professional support lawyer for the Barclays Bank UK (BUK) Legal team, supporting the management of legal risk through developing and executing a LRR knowledge management strategy aligned with team objectives, and advising on legal risk from new LRRs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Monitor legal and market developments, advising the team on risks and trends.
2. Promote best practices for capturing, curating, and sharing LRR knowledge.
3. Produce analysis and updates for internal briefings, coordinating inputs from various teams.
4. Design and deliver training to team members and the business.
5. Lead the development of the team’s LRR strategy to support stakeholder priorities.
6. Collaborate with legal tech, innovation, and project management teams to improve efficiencies.
7. Support knowledge sharing across teams through platforms and process improvements.
8. Coordinate SME input for maintaining a global LRR inventory.
9. Ensure LRRs are reflected in policies, standards, and controls.
10. Work closely with the Central Legal Team and Risk and Compliance colleagues.
11. Engage with internal and external legal and business stakeholders.
12. Contribute to strategic planning, resource management, and policy development.
13. If managing a team, define roles, plan for future needs, and oversee performance and development.
14. Demonstrate leadership behaviors such as listening, inspiring, aligning, and developing others.
15. As an individual contributor, serve as a SME, guide technical direction, and mentor less experienced staff.
16. Advise stakeholders on impacts and alignments across functions.
