What you’ll be doing As our Cardiff-based Account Manager, you’ll take responsibility for key client portfolios across Wales and the Southwest. You’ll: Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients and ensure full compliance with regulations. Conduct regular gap analyses and renewals, ensuring contracts remain profitable and effective. Work closely with technical teams to plan, deliver, and report on projects. Provide clients with practical guidance and Legionella awareness training. Identify opportunities for ethical up-selling and cross-selling in line with compliance standards. Attend client meetings, present reports, and contribute to tenders and new bids. Be the visible face of SMS Environmental, ensuring every client experience reflects our values of care, professionalism, and integrity. What you’ll bring: You’re someone who combines technical know-how with genuine relationship-building skills. You’ll have: Experience in account management or a client-facing service role. A solid understanding of ACoP L8 and HSG 274 Parts 1, 2 and 3. Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities. Confidence using Microsoft Office and related systems. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team. Health & Safety qualifications (NEBOSH or equivalent) — desirable but not essential. Job Description: Job Purpose: You will be handling a number of large, longstanding, key client portfolios with an annual turnover value of circa £1,000,000. You will ensure contracts are compliant and profitable through regular gap analysis, remedial works requested by clients, to include ethical up selling/cross selling inline with guidance/legislation/compliance. The role of an Account Manager is key to ensuring high customer service and compliance for clients, with an expectation to travel to see clients and carry out site visits. Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities: Ensure all contracts comply and run-in accordance with all current health and safety law, statutory legislation, regulations and guidance. Ensure that clients are aware and aid them with the management of their hazards on Opuz Manage existing customer budgets and profitability, developing full sales potential and ensure payment terms are met Carry out annual contract renewals including gap analysis Ensuring that contractual obligations are met Programme/tailor customer contracts providing advice and guidance to customers as required Raise quotations and tasks from customer queries and hazards Liaise with other departments i.e. plumbing, risk assessment teams to ensure works are planned and completed as per contract requirement. Ensure contracts achieve high KPI percentages Attend and present at external customer meetings Attend client places of work and provide legionella awareness training Key Skills & Experience: Exceptional organisational skills Excellent communication & interpersonal skills Strong self-management abilities Highly effective team working skills Advanced problem-solving skills Meticulous attention to detail In-depth technical knowledge Ability to work independently and as a team Customer relations experience preferred within a similar role An understanding on the sales cycle Technical knowledge of the Water Hygiene Industry in line with the L8 ACOP Experience conducting Legionella Risk Assessments is desirable Key Qualifications Health & Safety knowledge/qualifications i.e NEBOSH or equivalent is desirable
