Job overview

The Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) assists the ward team in providing high quality compassionate care through assistance to patients and their relatives and carers appropriate to their needs, and under direction from registered practitioners.

· Interviews for this position will be held in person ONLY at Scarborough Hospital. Remote interviews will not be available.

· Interested candidates are encouraged to make contact with the Recruiting Manager to have an informal discussion about the role

Main duties of the job

1. Greet and receive patients, carers, and other visitors to the ward/department in a courteous and compassionate manner in line with Trust values (includes receiving people via telephone and online). Act as a contact point when appropriate.
2. Orientate patients to the ward/department environment, providing appropriate information to them about facilities and services.
3. Attend ward meetings and contribute to discussions about improvement of patient care.
4. Respond to informal complaints by patients, relatives, or carers during routine duties, in line with local policies and procedures and escalate concerns you are unable to resolve to an appropriate person.
5. Escalate immediately any concerns regarding patient care to a registered practitioner.
6. Maintain the patient’s comfort, dignity, and privacy at all times
