Overview
As an Industrial Electrician, you will undertake maintenance of electrical and mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations. You will work as part of a Maintenance Team, delivering planned and reactive maintenance, and responding to emergency calls both in and out of hours. You will be required to work unsupervised in remote locations and manage your own workload while maintaining relationships with customers, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners.
Responsibilities
* Undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Water’s Electrical and Mechanical assets across wastewater treatment and pumping installations.
* Deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance; respond to emergency calls as part of an on-call rota.
* Supervise approved Contract Partners and provide risk assessments and method statements where required for permits to work.
* Use a Toughbook/iPad to capture all work activity and job status in line with workflow processes.
* Assist in the development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members.
* Install and commission new plant and equipment to relevant standards.
* Diagnose and repair faults on systems and plant; specify parts and equipment for procurement as needed.
* Work within Health and Safety policies, identify hazards, implement mitigations, and record hazards as required.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of the Maintenance Function within Process & Pumping.
Location & Work Type
Location: Yorkshire region. This is a mobile worker role; home location determines the area covered within Yorkshire.
Work type: Permanent. You’ll work 37 hours per week. Out of hours, weekend working, and bank holidays are part of a structured stand-by rota (training will determine on-call patterns, typically not more than 1 week in 4).
What You’ll Do and Where You Fit In
As an Industrial Electrician you will work across remote geographic locations and be accountable for planned and reactive electrical tasks within agreed timescales, quality, and cost parameters. You will build and maintain relationships with customers and colleagues, adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* Recognised Electrical Craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either City & Guilds/ONC/BTEC/NVQ/HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Eng Tech (essential).
* Full valid driving licence (no more than six points) due to site visits across the Yorkshire Region (essential).
Desirable Qualifications
* IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City and Guilds 2382-18).
* CompEx 1-4.
* HNC Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
Mandatory Experience/Capabilities
* Safe isolation to current IET regulations.
* Time-served industrial electrician with fault finding on control circuits up to PLC.
* IT literate (e.g., MS Office); able to produce maintenance reports.
* Experience fault finding with industrial motors and starters; 3-phase systems; rotating equipment; LV control circuits.
Desirable Experience/Capabilities
* Experience of pneumatics; working within ATEX standards; maintaining UPS systems; fault finding with soft start or variable speed drives; actuated valves.
Ideally, you will have experience as an industrial electrician within the water or wastewater sectors or similar utilities, with a proven track record of maintaining and repairing 3-phase rotating machinery and associated control systems. You should have a systematic fault-finding approach and be capable of mentoring others where appropriate.
Note: This role may involve work in confined spaces. You will be subject to medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, and spirometry tests to ensure safety in hazardous environments.
