We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated children's nurse for this post to provide safe effective sedation care to children and young people.
You will work collaboratively with the nurse led sedation ANP team, day care nursing and anesthetist to co-ordinate general anesthesia and sedation lists.

Main duties of the job
1. To be a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Paediatric sedation service working within the multidisciplinary team to provide safe effective sedation care (including GA) to children and young people with cancer.
2. To provide expert clinical care throughout the patients’ sedation pathway from the sedation administration through to safe patient discharge
3. To be involved in education, research, and audit for the sedation service to continually improve patient experience and services provided.

4. To work within the NMC Code of Conduct.
5. To work within the Trust’s Policies and Procedures and the parameters set down in agreed local clinical protocols and guidelines as well as national guidelines such as NICE.
6. Ensure that documentation is maintained to the Trust Standard (including electronic records).
7. Be competent, knowledgeable practitioner in the care delivery of patients (children and young people) requiring sedation and general anaesthesia (GA) for scans and procedures within the Trust.
8. To organise the clinical management of patients utilising clinical knowledge and skills to assess, plan, implement and initiate changes where required, working collaboratively with the anaesthetic team for decision making where concerns are highlighted. This includes monitoring and evaluating the response to sedation through analysis and interpretation of clinical tests and investigations.

Essential criteria
9. Registered Children’s Nurse
10. Post registration experience in clinical practice
11. Evidence of ongoing professional development
12. Willingness to complete European Paediatric Advanced Life Support Qualification
13. Competency in recovery nursing
Experience

14. Experience in intravenous drug administration
15. Evidence of teaching experience
Desirable criteria
16. Experience in paediatric oncology
17. Experience in Clinical Management
Skills Abilities/knowledge

18. Evidence of effective interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise with multidisciplinary team members
19. Evidence of commitment to patient care initiatives
20. Computer Literacy (eg: Microsoft Word and Outlook)

21. Cannulation / venepuncture / Capnography skills / advanced paediatric airway management

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
