Description Simpler Recycling Liaison Officer Location: Town Hall, Gosport Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday Salary: £31,067 – £33,366 We're recruiting two dedicated Liaison Officers to help us deliver vital changes under the Government’s Simpler Recycling agenda—a new national initiative designed to streamline and improve recycling across England. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in transforming how waste and recycling services are delivered locally. You’ll be part of an ambitious and collaborative team committed to sustainability, community engagement, and public service excellence. About the Role As a Liaison Officer, you’ll be responsible for implementing initiatives that align with the national Simpler Recycling framework, while also ensuring our waste and cleansing services run smoothly day-to-day. Your key responsibilities will include: Acting as the main liaison for recycling and waste management issues across the Council. Leading community engagement campaigns to increase recycling participation and reduce contamination. Supporting the development of efficient waste collection routes with our waste contractors. Managing enquiries and resolving service-related issues, providing accurate information and timely follow-up. Monitoring contractor performance and assisting with contract compliance. Conducting audits, inspections, and site visits to improve services and recommend changes. Representing the Council at community meetings, schools, and public forums to promote sustainable waste practices. Reviewing the current wheeled bin provision and defining the capacities needed to cope with the new requirements Assisting in a review of current street cleansing operations in line with the Environmental Protection Act. Compiling detailed reports on service uptake, challenges, and public engagement outcomes. What We’re Looking For We’re seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about environmental services and have the skills to drive change in their communities. The ideal candidate will have: Experience in waste collection, street cleansing, or environmental services. Strong understanding of current waste regulations, the Environment Act 2021, and the Simpler Recycling agenda. The ability to analyse data such as MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) outputs and Project Integra performance indicators. Experience working with contractors and monitoring service-level agreements. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. A proactive and positive attitude to customer service and public engagement. Knowledge of procurement processes is desirable.
