Job Summary

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our ward based occupational therapy team in the form of an Occupational Therapy Assistant based on Mulberry Ward, Scunthorpe. If you have a keen interest in working in a mental health setting, with adults currently in an acute mental health ward setting and a passion for supporting recovery through occupation, then this is the opportunity for you to make a positive difference.

Applicant Statement

Please explain in your supporting information why you want to be an OT Assistant and how your previous experience makes you the best candidate for the role. If you don’t already have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant subject, RDaSH is offering this post alongside the opportunity for you to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification relevant to your role. An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Around 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying, which leads to a nationally recognised qualification. Whether you already work for us or are joining the Trust and NHS for the first time, apprenticeships can help you to develop the skills, knowledge and know‑how to embark on a successful and fulfilling career within the health service.

Main duties

* Carry out individual therapeutic intervention programmes and provide feedback according to the agreed assessment framework and treatment aims identified by the Occupational Therapist.
* Assist the Occupational Therapist in conducting community based individual assessments.
* Work with service users to develop independent living skills and work towards individual recovery and vocational goals in preparation for discharge.
* Carry out agreed Occupational Therapy interventions with service users without direct supervision of senior staff in community locations and service users’ homes as directed by OT.
* Carry out group work and contribute to regular evaluation of groups, in conjunction with service users and the multi‑disciplinary team, and ensure a balanced programme of activities.
* Provide accurate, relevant and timely verbal and written information regarding patient progress.
* Promote meaningful occupation within the patient group.
* Identify and source resources for the ward activities, and lead the maintenance of the therapy space (organising, maintaining supplies, creating a welcoming and inviting space, creative use of space).
