Is working within CAMHS the next step in your career? Are you looking to work in a team that empowers you and supports your development as a practitioner? Then the CAMHS Inpatient Units at South London and Maudsley might be what you’re looking for.
We’re passionate about delivering first-class patient-centred, safe and effective care across adolescent inpatient units, general and PICU. Patients are at the heart of everything we do. We’re looking to recruit outstanding people who will go the extra mile to support our patients and colleagues. We’ll support staff with development opportunities regardless of career stage.
Main duties of the job
Existing CAMHS experience is not essential; you will have opportunities to learn new specialist skills through our learning and development opportunities, including leadership and managerial skills alongside clinical interventions. Please highlight transferable skills and experience in your application.
We welcome skilled practitioners who would like to develop CAMHS-specific skills from various backgrounds including adult mental health, learning disability and paediatric settings. We offer an in-house development programme and a CAMHS Nursing Academy based on the four pillars of advanced nursing practice.
Vacancies across adolescent units include:
* Tyson East 2, Maudsley Hospital (currently based at Bethlem Royal Hospital)
* Bethlem Adolescent Unit, Bethlem Royal Hospital
* CAMHS Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Bethlem Royal Hospital
Bethlem Adolescent Unit and CAMHS PICU are based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital; Tyson East 2 will be based in the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People (opening date TBC). PICU provides care for some of the most unwell and vulnerable young people needing secure mental health services in a compassionate, safe and timely manner.
Working for our organisation
We offer an extensive benefits package and support work-life balance. We value staff as part of a close-knit team and provide options for flexible working.
Some benefits include:
* Generous pay, pensions and leave based on role and length of service
* Flexible working and part-time options
* Career development with mentoring, coaching, leadership programmes and other talent initiatives
* Car lease and staff housing where available
* NHS discounts and well-being resources
* Counselling services, wellbeing events and staff recognition
* Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loans
* Childcare vouchers and staff restaurants
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working with young people in CAMHS is challenging, rewarding and focused on helping shape their mental health journey. As a clinical charge nurse, you will plan clinical care, be part of the nursing team, develop and apply your clinical skills in an acute mental health setting, and maintain a calm, contained demeanor. You will assess risk formally and informally and balance safety with a therapeutic approach, with knowledge of relevant legal frameworks (MHA 1983, Capacity Act 2005, Children Act 1989).
You must be a qualified RMN, LD or Children’s Nurse committed to working in an inpatient mental health setting.
