Job Description
Network Engineer — keep the network running across a major UK group
£52,000 + £200/week On-Call Allowance + Call-Out Fees | North West | Hybrid
This is network engineering in one of the most demanding and interesting environments you'll find — a major UK group operating multiple sites. The network keeps everything moving: check-in, security, operations, systems. When it goes down, everyone knows about it. You'll be part of the team that makes sure it doesn't.
It's a Cisco house undergoing a meaningful refresh — switches are being upgraded across sites, and there's a solid mix of support and project work to keep things varied. Multiple sites in scope, all managed from the primary North West base. No two days are the same and the tech isn't standing still.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Day-to-day network support across a live, high-availability environment (70%)
• Project work including switch refresh and upgrades across the estate (30%)
• LAN, switching, and wireless support and configuration (Cisco & Aruba)
• Firewall support and management — Cisco ASA and Firepower
• BGP and VPN configuration and troubleshooting
• Physical network installation where required
• On-call coverage — 1 week in 5, 24x7, with allowance and call-out fees
TECH STACK
• Cisco Switching
• Cisco ASA & Firepower
• Aruba Wireless
• BGP | VPN | LAN
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Solid Cisco networking background — LAN, switching, and firewalls (ASA/Firepower)
• Comfortable with BGP and VPN in a live production environment
• Aruba wireless experience beneficial
• Happy working onsite 3 days a week — this is a hands-on, physical environment
• Strong communication skills — you'll interact with operational teams who aren't technical
• Must be located within one hour of the primary site — on-call response time is critical
THE PACKAGE
• £52,000 base salary
• £200 per week on-call allowance (1 week in 5)
• Additional call-out fee when called out
• Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days from home
• Hours: 8am–4pm or 9am–5pm (flexible start)
• 24x7 on-call when on the rota
WHY THIS ROLE IS WORTH A LOOK
• Critical infrastructure — the work genuinely matters and the environment keeps you sharp
• No two days are the same — support, projects, and a live refresh programme running in parallel
• The tech isn't standing still — active investment in the network, not a stagnant BAU desk
• Well-structured on-call — 1 in 5 with a proper allowance, not an afterthought
• Multiple sites in scope — variety across sites without relocating
