Nursing Associate

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Nursing Associate to join our dedicated Urology Investigation Unit. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a patient-facing environment, enjoys working collaboratively, and is passionate about delivering safe, effective, and respectful care.

As a Nursing Associate in our Urology Investigation Unit, you will support patients undergoing diagnostic procedures and investigations, including flexible cystoscopy and urodynamics.

You will work closely with registered nurses, consultants, and healthcare assistants to ensure patients receive timely, dignified, and person-centred care. If you are a Registered Nursing Associate on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register with experience in an outpatient or procedural setting and a willingness to learn and contribute to developing our service, we will be able to offer you opportunities for ongoing professional development and career progression in an inclusive, supportive environment.

Main duties of the job

The aim of the role is to work as part of the multidisciplinary team to contribute to the specialist nursing service within the Urology Investigation Unit.

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking and recording comprehensive nursing care to a diverse group of patients. They will be required to communicate effectively, with sensitivity and compassion, and to manage relationships with people, making reasonable adjustments where necessary.

The post holder will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and will work collaboratively with the team leader to contribute to a learning environment that promotes excellence in the Urology Investigation Unit at MKUH.

Job responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities

Clinical

Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional) with a focus on promoting health and independence. Have appropriate attitudes and behaviors compatible with NHS and Trust values.

Policy and Service Development

Promote health and safety maintaining best practice in health, safety and security. Share ideas with colleagues to improve care and suggest areas for innovation.

Communication and relationships

Communicate effectively across a wide range of channels and with a wide range of individuals, such as patients and their relatives and health and social care professionals to maintain safe effective care. Demonstrate those inter-personal skills that promote clarity, compassion, empathy, respect and trust.

Analytical and judgmental skills

Exercise personal responsibility and work independently within defined parameters of practice, taking the initiative in a variety of situations and performing a range of clinical and care skills consistent with the role, responsibilities and professional values of a Nursing Associate. Exercise judgment in assessing patient condition, comfort and wellbeing using a range of information sources.

Exercise personal duty of care in the safe use and storage of equipment. Be environmentally aware and prudent in use of resources and energy.

Act in ways which support equality and value diversity. Support development of less experienced staff and students.

Develop skills to maintain professional standards of record keeping. Follow all information governance guidance and policies.

Work within the organisational policy, procedures and guidelines. Be responsible and accountable for own practice, working within limits of competence and within professional boundaries. Raise any concerns to a registered care professional or other appropriate person.

Teaching and Training

Be proactive in seeking opportunities to develop their own knowledge and skills. Work in partnership with their line manager to develop and deliver on Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound (SMART) objectives at annual appraisal and personal development planning meetings.

Person Specification


Qualifications and knowledge

* Foundation degree (Nursing Associate) registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
* Basic Life Support (BLS)
* GCSE Maths and English


Experience

* Understanding of NMC Code of Conduct
* Knowledge of current urology nursing issues
* Knowledge of scope of professional practice
* Experience working in the field of Urology
* Awareness of current outpatient nursing targets


Skills

* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
* Demonstrable evidence of delivering quality patient care
* Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment and be motivated
* Demonstrate understanding of the requirement of the role
