3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• Youth Justice Officer required to join Peterborough City Council’s Youth Justice Service on a temporary basis to cover a vacant post.
• The role involves managing a caseload of children and young people who are in, or at risk of entering, the youth justice system.
• You will complete assessments, develop intervention plans, deliver direct work, and represent the service at Youth Court, working within Child-First principles and National Standards.
• This is a hybrid role based at Sand Martin House, with three days in the office and two days working remotely.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Manage a caseload of children and young people subject to statutory youth justice interventions.
• Complete comprehensive assessments of risk, safety, needs and strengths.
• Develop and implement SMART intervention plans in partnership with children, families and multi-agency professionals.
• Deliver 1:1 and family-based interventions in homes, schools, community settings and the office.
• Supervise children in line with National Standards and monitor compliance.
• Take enforcement action where required in cases of non-compliance or escalating risk.
• Attend Youth Court, supporting children and presenting written and verbal reports.
• Manage out-of-court disposals, undertake triage and deliver diversion interventions.
• Work collaboratively with Police, Children’s Social Care, Health, Education and other partner agencies.
• Participate in safeguarding processes and multi-agency risk management arrangements.
• Promote and deliver restorative justice approaches, ensuring victims’ voices are heard.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records using ChildView.
• Adhere to Youth Justice Service policies, procedures and relevant legislation.

Skills/Experience:
• Experience working with children and young people within the youth justice or criminal justice system.
• Strong knowledge of Youth Justice legislation, National Standards and Child-First principles.
• Experience completing risk assessments and managing complex caseloads.
• Ability to produce high-quality court reports and present confidently in Youth Court.
• Experience delivering direct interventions to children and families.
• Understanding of safeguarding procedures and multi-agency working.
• Ability to manage risk, challenge non-compliance and take enforcement action appropriately.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Competent in case management systems (e.g. ChildView).
• Full UK driving licence (DVLA check required).

Additional Information:
• Full UK driving licence (DVLA check required).
• Location: Sand Martin House, Bittern Way, Fletton Quays, PE2 8TY.
• Rate: £23 per hour (Umbrella).
• Hours: 37 per week (09:00 – 17:30).
• Hybrid working: 3 days office-based, 2 days remote.
• Enhanced DBS with barred list required.
