Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

The NHS Talking Therapies Team based in the Isle of Wight is seeking highly motivated individuals to join as a trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (tPWP). The successful candidate will join a well‑established service and contribute to a stepped‑care model for people experiencing anxiety disorders and depression.

This opportunity offers the chance to make a real difference to the lives of local people. You will be based centrally in our main office and provide clinics across a number of community settings; a driving licence and use of your own vehicle is essential.

An average week during the training year may look like:

* Attendance of team meetings and forums
* 3 to 4 days of patient‑facing work either face‑to‑face, telephone, online or group treatment modalities
* University in‑person 1‑2 days per week, depending on where you are in the course
* Caseload management, clinical skills and line management supervision
* Completing administrative tasks including session write‑up, onward referral, signposting, risk management and safeguarding reporting


Main duties of the job

As part of the role you will attend the Post Graduate Certificate in PWP practice at the University of Southampton 1‑2 days per week for a year. Alongside the training you will practice assessment and delivery of low‑intensity NICE recommended interventions under clinical and line management supervision. Employment beyond this period is conditional on passing the course and becoming registered as a qualified PWP with the BABCP or BPS.

Qualifications

* 2:2 degree in a clinical, health or science subject
* OR


Experience

* Supporting people with symptoms such as low mood or anxiety.
* Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
* Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence‑based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.


Additional Criteria

* Understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present itself.
* Understanding of NHS Talking Therapies and the stepped care model.
* Ability to build trust and work effectively with patients to achieve lasting recovery.
* Resilient and capable of maintaining boundaries to manage own personal stress.
* Adaptable to change.
* Knowing when to seek guidance and support.
* Managing risk and taking safeguarding actions.
* Delivering and facilitating group workshops.
* Be able to sit for prolonged periods in order to interact with patients face to face or via the telephone or at the computer.
* High level of enthusiasm and motivation for an outcomes‑based high volume approach with expected targets to be reached.
* Regard for others and respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality.
* Committed to work in a service where agreed targets are in place, with high volume of patients being seen.
* Ability to work within a team and foster good working relationships and act in a professional manner related to specific ethical codes, e.g. NMC Code of Conduct, BABCP Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
* Ability to use clinical supervision positively and effectively.
* Able to be self‑reflective.
* Able to work under pressure and be able to organise time and diary to suit the demands of a high‑volume/ low‑intensity approach.
* Ability to set deadlines and prioritise effectively.
* Work under own initiative.
* Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the needs of the service.
* Computer literate, able to learn new computer systems in a timely manner.
* Understands the need for demonstrating clinical outcomes.
* Advanced communication skills, including verbal, written and telephone skills. Ability to write clear reports and letters.
