Role Overview
The Director of Nursing, Midwifery & AHPs, working to the Chief Nursing Officer, is responsible for the professional leadership of the nursing, midwifery and allied health professions (AHP) in RCHT. They will have delegated responsibility for the delivery of the Trust's safety, quality improvement and patient experience priorities, and will also lead on some across‑Trust and system priorities as agreed with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board (CIOS).
The role requires close collaboration with associate directors, heads of nursing and clinical matrons to ensure professional standards are met and maintained, and that care is recovery‑focused, patient‑centred and of the highest quality.
As a senior leader you will attend executive leaders team meetings, relevant Board meetings by invitation of the Chief Nursing Officer, and act as a strong role model for all colleagues through credibility, visibility, commitment to improving practice, celebrating success, and encouraging creativity, innovation, and excellence.

As a pivotal member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Nursing will lead the direction and leadership of acute adult, paediatric, maternity and allied health services, and work closely with system and regional partners to ensure services comply with core offer specifications and operate within agreed investment and efficiency parameters.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, serving a population of around 470,000 people and a higher number during peak visitor seasons. With approximately 6,700 staff and a budget of roughly £740 million, RCHT operates three main sites providing approximately 780 inpatient beds. The Trust works closely with the University of Exeter Medical School, University of Plymouth School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Peninsula Dental School to deliver education and specialist care.
