An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and technically minded Construction Planner to develop into a Senior Planner through a structured combination of formal training and hands-on project experience.
Working alongside experienced planning professionals, the successful candidate will gain exposure to construction planning, programming, preliminaries, and methodology development across projects at various stages, including prequalification, tender, and live contract delivery. The role offers particular exposure to complex civil engineering environments, including water-related infrastructure works.
You will play a key part in producing accurate assessments of construction sequencing, methodologies, and timelines, supporting the development of robust programmes that guide design, procurement, and construction activities to ensure efficient project delivery.
Key Responsibilities

Contribute planning and programming input to prequalification and bid submissions, including the development of construction methodologies
*
Assist with the preparation of tender programmes, programme narratives, phasing diagrams, and supporting documentation to clearly communicate construction strategies
*
Work closely with preconstruction, estimating, design, temporary works, and specialist subcontract teams to ensure coordinated planning input
*
Support the creation and delivery of presentation materials for internal tender reviews and client interviews
*
At contract award stage, assist site teams in developing detailed construction, design, and procurement programmes, with associated planning commentary
*
Provide ongoing planning support to site teams, including progress reviews, programme updates, and reporting to senior project stakeholders
*
Assist in the preparation and issue of contractual programmes and supporting narratives to clients in line with contractual timescales, including use of client programme management portals
*
Support business continuity planning requirements through effective communication and awareness within project teams
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
*
Strong interest in civil engineering or general construction, with a sound understanding of construction techniques and methodologies
*
Practical site experience within civil engineering or infrastructure environments, ideally including water or wastewater projects
*
Awareness of mechanical, electrical, and commissioning processes is advantageous
*
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
*
Ability to quickly assimilate project information and develop clear, logical, and well-structured planning solutions
*
Capable of working independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
*
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging internal teams, clients, consultants, and supply chain partners
*
Understanding of design development, procurement processes, and contractual considerations
*
Experience working on a range of construction projects and techniques
*
Exposure to Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) approaches
*
Logical and innovative problem-solving mindset
*
Understanding of logic-linked programmes and scheduling requirements under NEC contracts
*
Experience using planning software such as Primavera P6 is desirable; training can be provided
*
Experience in programme visualisation tools (e.g. CM Builder) is advantageous
*
Familiarity with the NEC suite of contracts
*
Ability to update, track, and re-sequence programmes and monthly reports using planning software
*
CSCS card required
*
Working towards or holding membership of a professional body (e.g. CIOB or ICE) is desirable
*
Full UK driving licence required
*
Willingness to work in a hybrid arrangement, including regional offices, project sites, consultant/subcontractor offices, and home working, varying week to week
