The role
Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions, one for 12 months and one for six months to work with Professor Alison Parkin in the Department of Chemistry. The project is associated with an ERC consolidator award funded by the UKRI Frontier Research Guarantee. Further information can be found within this brief and on our website: www.york.ac.uk/chemistry/ Role The project will focus on harnessing our bioelectrochemical toolkit for the deconvolution of enzyme mechanisms. This appointment will suit a person with training in protein production and characterisation, enzyme electrochemistry and data analysis. The positions are full time for up to 12 and 6 months, available from 1st October 2026. Please note that flexible working patterns will be considered. Main duties and responsibilities: To conduct research under the supervision of Professor Alison Parkin and to contribute to the production of research specifically in the area of harnessing bioelectrochemical methods for mechanistic enzyme studies To assist in the identification and development of potential areas of research and the development of proposals for independent or collaborative research projects To provide guidance to other staff and students, as required, as well as coordinating the work of small research teams Skills, Experience & Qualification needed You will have an undergraduate degree and PhD in chemistry or biochemistry with knowledge of bioelectrochemical enzymology and Fourier transform voltammetry along with knowledge of data analysis and processing Experience in redox-enzyme bioelectrochemistry, protein production and characterisation and working in gloveboxes Highly developed communication skills to engage effectively with a wide ranging audience, both orally and in writing; demonstrated ability to write up research work for publication; ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently using own initiative; ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research Interview date: To be confirmed For informal enquiries: please contact Prof Alison Parkin on alison.parkin@york.ac.uk The University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves.
